A total of 95 million 565 thousand 514 people traveled from Istanbul airports with 637 thousand 204 arrival and departure flights in the 10 months of this year. The number of passengers flying from these airports increased by 16 million 547 thousand 114 compared to the same period in 2022.
The increase in air traffic and passenger density, which decreased significantly worldwide and in Turkiye during the COVID-19 pandemic, started in 2022 and continued this year.
There was a significant increase in the number of passengers hosted at Istanbul and Sabiha Gokcen airports in the 10 months of this year compared to 2022.
Increases in the number of passengers also positively affected the balance sheets of airline companies.
The fact that the increase in September, which is considered the end of the tourism season, continued in October was reflected in the statistics.
The number of passengers using Istanbul Airport approached 65 million
According to the data of the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI), 64 million 613 thousand 433 passengers used Istanbul Airport in the January-October period of this year. Of these passengers, 15 million 675 thousand 588 flew on domestic flights and 48 million 937 thousand 845 flew on international flights.
In the January-October period of last year, 13 million 607 thousand 991 passengers traveled on domestic lines and 39 million 997 thousand 565 passengers on international lines at Istanbul Airport.
It was calculated that there was an increase of 11 million 7 thousand 877 people at the airport, where 53 million 605 thousand 556 passengers traveled in the 10 months of 2022, compared to the previous period.
The number of passengers at Istanbul Airport increased by 21% compared to the same period last year.
Increase in domestic and international lines at Sabiha Gokcen Airport
In the January-October period this year, 14 million 792 thousand 683 passengers flew on domestic lines and 16 million 159 thousand 398 passengers flew on international lines from Sabiha Gokcen Airport. 30 million 952 thousand 81 passengers traveled through the airport during this period.
In the same period last year, 25 million 412 thousand 844 passengers, including 12 million 759 thousand 237 domestic flights and 12 million 653 thousand 607 international flights, flew to and from Sabiha Gokcen Airport.
The number of passengers hosted at the airport in the January-October period of 2023 increased by 2 million 33 thousand 446 on domestic flights and 3 million 505 thousand 791 on international flights.
It was calculated that the number of passengers increased by 22% compared to the same period last year.
In the 10 months of this year, Istanbul airports hosted a total of 95 million 565 thousand 514 passengers, 30 million 468 thousand 271 on domestic lines and 65 million 97 thousand 243 on international lines.
In the January-October period of last year, the number of passengers flying with flights based at Istanbul airports was calculated as 79 million 18 thousand 400.
It was determined that the number of passengers increased by 16 million 547 thousand 114 people and approximately 21% compared to the same period this year.
The increase in the number of flights continues
Arrival and departure flights based at Istanbul airports continued to increase in the 10 months of this year.
At Istanbul Airport, 109 thousand 59 domestic flights and 316 thousand 984 international flights were made in the January-October period of this year. The total number of flights at this airport was calculated as 426 thousand 43.
At Istanbul Airport, where a total of 351 thousand 468 flights were made in the 10 months of last year, an increase of 74 thousand 575 was calculated compared to the same period this year. Statistics show that flights increased by approximately 21% compared to last year.
Flight increase of 22 thousand 872 in Sabiha Gokcen
In the 10 months of this year, a total of 189 thousand 724 flights were made at Sabiha Gokcen Airport, including 89 thousand 533 domestic flights and 100 thousand 191 international flights.
While a total of 166 thousand 852 flights were operated from the airport in the same period last year, the increase in flights was determined as 22 thousand 872.
During this period, a total of 21 thousand 437 flights were made at Ataturk Airport, 13 thousand 298 on domestic lines and 8 thousand 139 on international lines.
637 thousand 204 flights were operated from Istanbul airports in the January-October period of this year.
In the same period last year, 542 thousand 50 departure and arrival flights were organized from this airport. The number of flights in the 10 months of this year increased by 95 thousand 154 compared to the same period last year, reaching 18%.
