Trabzon’s aquatic products exports increased by 58%

Aquaculture exports from Trabzon last year increased by 58% and reached $120 million 153 thousand.

Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association (DKIB) Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors Ahmet Hamdi Gurdogan stated that aquatic products were exported to 21 countries from Trabzon last year.

Stating that $75 million 913 thousand of water products were exported from the city in 2022 for 11 thousand 51 tons, Gurdogan said, “Last year, 20 thousand 973 tons of water products were exported from our city and a profit of $120 million 153 thousand 527 was made. Accordingly, aquatic products exports increased by 90% in quantity and 58% in value compared to the previous year.”

Gurdogan emphasized that the Russian Federation is the leader in the city’s aquatic products exports and noted that 13 thousand 480 tons of aquatic products were exported to the said country for $72 million 611 thousand 285.

Gurdogan stated that the Russian Federation is followed by Vietnam with $32 million 439 thousand 990 and Japan with $2 million 403 thousand 170. He said that unlike the previous year, water products were sold to Myanmar, Belarus, Sweden, Egypt, United Arab Emirates and Malaysia last year.

Gurdogan expressed that they believe that aquatic products exports will continue their increasing trend in 2024.

Pointing out that companies from Trabzon export especially Turkish salmon as aquatic products, Gurdogan stated that anchovies and sea bass are sold to European countries.
