Turkish company to invest in Afghanistan’s wind energy

The Turkish construction company 77 Construction, which has built the Kajaki Hydroelectric Power Plant, its biggest project after Afghanistan came under the rule of the Taliban, turned to renewable energy this time. Suleyman Ciliv, the boss of 77 Construction, who met with the Afghan Minister, also gave the green light for mining and cement.

Afghanistan is one of the most challenging geographies in the world, both because of the administration and the region. In Afghanistan, which has been experiencing its own disaster with long-term occupation and civil wars, life has become even more difficult for the local people with the Taliban, who seized power in 2021.

In this country, where international companies do not do business, Turkish companies are developing projects by succeeding. One of these companies is 77 Construction. As you may remember last year, we announced to you that 77 Construction, directed by Suleyman Ciliv, has completed an important project. It was the second phase of the Kajaki Dam in Helmand Region, the first major project of the Taliban Administration. Next to the 51-megawatt hydroelectric power plant, a 100-megawatt power plant was completed.

The value of that project was determined as 160 million dollars. Following the project that will provide electricity to the Helmand and Kandahar regions of the country, the Turkish company 77 Construction has turned its direction from hydro energy to wind this time. The first meeting on this issue was held at the Afghanistan Ministry of Water and Energy the previous day. The meeting was held by the Deputy Minister of Water and Energy of Afghanistan, Mullah Abdul Latif Mansur, and the Chairman of the Board of 77 Construction, Suleyman Civil.

During the meeting on energy production from different sources, Ciliv expressed that he wanted to invest and produce 200 megawatts of electricity from wind resources in Afghanistan. Afghan Deputy Minister also gave the green light to Ciliv’s project and signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation for the wind farm. Deputy Minister Mullah Abdul Latif Mansur, during his meeting with Suleyman Ciliv, evaluated the completion of the second phase of the Kajaki hydroelectric dam by the Turkish company as “a valuable achievement for the people of Afghanistan”.

Also talked about mining and concrete investments

Suleyman Ciliv also expressed that they want to invest in mining in Afghanistan. It was stated that Ciliv also discussed joint cooperation and investments in the country’s mines, especially cement, with Afghanistan’s Acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum, Shahabuddin Dilawar. Ciliv added that many investors in Turkiye want to invest in Afghanistan.
