Although the figures for 2023 have not been fully announced yet, Turkish shipping companies have added 4 more ships to their fleet in the last 2 weeks. A newly established Turkish company based in Turkiye, Canna International, purchased the 2004-built long-range 72,400 dwt LR1 tanker Chemtrans Sea, sold by German Chemikalien Seetransport.

The second tanker, the 2004-built 72,273 dwt Chemtrans Moon, was taken over by an unnamed Turkiye-based shipping company. It was announced by international shipping companies that the total price of both ships was $34 million.

KARAMEHMET BOUGHT 2 SHIPS, ORDERED 2 SHIPS

Among other tanker owners flocking to this sector from Turkiye, two 74,000 dwt South Korean Hyundai Mipo-built ships, Alpine Pioneer (2010) and Alpine Pembroke (2011), were sold as a block for $65 million last week. These ships were bought by Mehmet Emin Karamehmet, the boss of Cukurova. In the news we announced from Patronlar Dunyasi last week, Karamehmet also made an agreement with Korean K Shipbuilding for the construction of two new 73,400 dwt LR1 tankers last week.
