Turkiye: 7-month anchovy exports increased by 11%

Anchovy exports from Turkiye in the January-July period increased by 11% and reached $7 million 33 thousand 153.

Ahmet Hamdi Gurdogan, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of DKIB, said that 1106 tons of anchovy were exported from Turkiye in 7 months of the year.

Stating that an income of $7 million 33 thousand 153 was obtained from the said export, Gurdogan stated that the export of anchovy decreased by 3% compared to the same period of the previous year, which earned $6 million 315 thousand 788 in return for 1145 tons, and increased by 11% in income.

Noting that anchovy found buyers in 24 countries during this period, Gurdogan said, “France, Belgium and the USA were the 3 countries to which anchovy was exported the most. During this period, anchovy was sold to France for $2 million 729 thousand 791, to Belgium for $2 million 88 thousand 187 and to the USA for $660 thousand 125.”

Noting that anchovy was exported to Sweden, Uzbekistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Moldova, Malaysia and Somalia different from the same period last year, Gurdogan stated that although the anchovy season is over, some companies continue to export their products until the beginning of the new season.

Gurdogan stated that the amount of products caught in anchovy in the 2022-2023 season remained low, and that it was important to implement practices that would allow anchovy to reach a large size and become abundant by introducing a one-season fishing ban with strict control.
