The furniture, paper and forestry products sector, which made great efforts to increase the export figures that fell after the earthquake disaster, also received a reward for their efforts. Making a strong start to this year, the exports of the sector increased by 19.1% in May compared to the same period of the previous year and reached $731 million.

In May, the country to which the furniture, paper and forestry products sector exports the most was Iraq with $107 million, followed by the United Kingdom with $36 million and Israel with $35 million. Iran, Germany, USA, Libya, France, Morocco and Russia were also among the top 10 exporting countries in May.

“We geared up for the second half of the year”

Erkan Ozkan, President of the Istanbul Furniture, Paper and Forest Products Exporters’ Association, who made his comments on the subject in the statement, stated that the sector started to rise again with its domestic and international activities and said, “The sector, which returned to its active days, stepped up in export activities for the second half of the year.”

Noting that the industry has overcome all difficulties together, Ozkan made the following statements:

“We do not consider any success we have achieved for this as a coincidence, we all have an intense effort. In the first half of the year, we carried out activities in many countries both within the scope of the Far Countries Strategy and within the framework of our visits as a union. On the one hand, we helped our sector representatives to consolidate their position in their current markets with promotion activities, on the other hand, we helped them to enter new markets. This month we continue our activities in England and Germany. The work will continue throughout the year. After each country visit, our companies will make a significant contribution to the increase in our export figures in the coming months with the agreements they have made.”

Ozkan emphasized that they believe that they will exceed the target of $10 billion at the end of the year as a result of their devoted efforts.
