Turkiye broke a record in exports to Spain with $9 billion

Last year, Turkiye made the highest export of all time to Spain with $9 billion 266 million 739 thousand.

Turkiye continues to break export records by standing out both in its region and in the rest of the world with its market diversity, geopolitical location, strong infrastructure and qualified workforce.

Turkiye, which is a strategic commercial partner especially for Europe, attracts the attention of countries that want to invest with its sustainable economic growth.

In this context, Turkiye is also increasing its exports to its main market, Spain, one of the leading countries of the European Union (EU). Turkiye and Spain, which are taking the offensive in bilateral trade, are evaluating opportunities in the sectors in which they have a say.

According to the information compiled by the AA correspondent from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) data, Turkiye achieved the highest export of all time to Spain last year with $9 billion 266 million 739 thousand.

While Spain became the 8th country with the most exports in 2023, its share in Turkiye’s total exports was 3.6%.

The automotive industry made the most exports

The automotive industry made the most exports to Spain with $2 billion 439 million 508 thousand.

The automotive industry was followed by ready-made clothing and apparel with $2 billion 254 million 123 thousand, chemicals and products with $1 billion 315 million 89 thousand, electrical and electronics with $620 million 774 thousand, and steel with $437 million 792 thousand.

The sectors in which the country showed the least demand were ornamental plants and products with $395 thousand, tobacco with $2 million 784 thousand, ships, yachts and services with $2 million 875 thousand, fresh fruits and vegetables with $9 million 50 thousand, and carpet sector with $9 million 210 thousand.

The automotive industry took the lead in the increase in exports

Last year, the automotive industry exported the most to Spain in terms of value.

The automotive industry increased its exports to Spain by $623 million 344 thousand in 2023 compared to 2022.

In the increase in exports, the automotive industry was followed by olives and olive oil with $173 million 719 thousand, chemicals and products with $98 million 728 thousand, electrical and electronics with $60 million 257 thousand, cereals, pulses, oilseeds and products with $38 million 831 thousand.

The olive and olive oil sector exported $270 thousand to $133 thousand to the country, and grains, pulses, oil seeds and their products exported $77 million 345 thousand.

When looked at on a provincial basis, the highest export to Spain was from Istanbul with $3 billion 919 million 565 thousand.

Exports to the country amounted to $1 billion 84 million 604 thousand from Bursa, $1 billion 35 million 609 thousand from Kocaeli, $807 million 775 thousand from Izmir, and $620 million 554 thousand from Sakarya.
