Turkiye: Card payments reached ₺978.3 billion in December

The total amount of payments made with credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards in December increased by 116% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached ₺978.3 billion.

Interbank Card Center (BKM) announced its data for December.

Accordingly, as of December, the number of credit cards in Turkiye was 117.7 million, the number of debit cards was 189.5 million and the number of prepaid cards was 90.0 million. Compared to December 2022, there was an increase of 18% in the number of credit cards, 12% in the number of debit cards and 26% in the number of prepaid cards. The number of cards reached 397.2 million, increasing by 17% compared to the same period last year.

The total amount of payments made with credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards in December increased by 116% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached ₺978.3 billion. While ₺818.2 billion of card payments were made with credit cards, ₺142.6 billion were made with debit cards and ₺17.5 billion were prepaid cards.

The growth rate in payments made by credit card compared to the same period of the previous year was 124%, in payments made by debit card it was 78%, and in payments made by prepaid cards, this rate was 128%.

The total number of payments made with credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards in December increased by 22% compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 1.4 billion. While 809.8 million of card payments were made with credit cards, 525.4 million were made with debit cards and 109.9 million were prepaid cards.

The growth rate in the number of payments made with credit cards was 24% compared to the same period last year, and 15% in the number of payments made with debit cards, while this rate was 41% in the number of payments made with prepaid cards.
