Turkiye-Greece Land Transportation Joint Commission Meeting was held in Izmir.

According to the written statement made by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, passenger and freight transportation between the two countries was discussed at the meeting held on 23-24 November.

The Turkish delegation was led by the General Director of Transport Services Regulation, Murat Bastor, and the Greek delegation was led by the General Director of Transport, Georgios Patsiavos.

At the meeting, a protocol was signed to further develop trade between the two countries. With the protocol, the dual pass document quota was increased from 26 thousand to 30 thousand in total. In addition, it was decided that the additional pass documents obtained in 2023 would not be offset from the 2024 quotas.

The Turkish delegation requested that a study be carried out to facilitate the transportation of certain products such as perishable food, fish and fresh vegetables and fruits. The Greek delegation stated that they would evaluate the issue with relevant institutions.

At the meeting, it was also decided to ensure coordination between the transporter associations of both countries and to discuss cooperation opportunities by establishing a transporter network.

The delegations also discussed passenger transportation in detail. Passenger transportation, which came to a halt during the pandemic, has returned to its previous level in the last two years.

The parties also exchanged views on facilitating bureaucratic processes and accelerating business processes in passenger transportation permits.
