Turkiye Implements Single Pricing for Fuel Starting May 15

The Energy Market Regulatory Authority said “stop” to the sales of 95 octane gasoline by adding price difference with expressions such as “Ultra Force”, “Power”, “VPro”. From now on, the same type of fuel will be sold at a single price, and uncertainty will end.

According to the news of Baris Simsek from Sabah, the practice of selling differentiated fuel products at the same price at stations, which EMRA is working on, has been published to come into force on May 15. EMRA made regulations regarding the sale of differentiated fuel products. Accordingly, price difference will no longer be applicable for differentiated fuels.

95 ACTONE GASOLINE AND DIESEL WERE SOLD WITH A HIGHER PRICE

At fuel stations, 95 octane gasoline and diesel were sold with expressions such as “Ultra Force”, “Power”, “fuelsave”, “VMax”, “VPro” with the price difference added. These fuels were charged a higher price than regular fuel, claiming that they provided fuel savings, cleaned the engine, and added extra performance to the vehicle. With the regulation prepared by EMRA, the single price period started at the stations. The decision will come into force on May 15.

ONE PRICE FOR SAME TYPE OF FUEL

In the statement made by EMRA on the subject, it was stated that distributor license holders can continue to sell differentiated fuel, but there will no longer be more than one price for the same type of fuel at fuel stations.

UNCERTAINTY WILL BE REMOVED WITH THE NEW DECISION

In the statement, it was emphasized that the most important reasons for the decision were to prevent uncertainties, especially among consumers, and to facilitate the operations of distributors and dealers, and the following was noted:

“The decision published in the Official Gazette in order for the relevant license holders to complete the necessary harmonization studies will come into force on May 15, 2024. With approximately 13 thousand dealers in Turkiye, the fuel needs of consumers are met with the highest service and quality standards. Quality monitoring is continued uninterruptedly at fuel dealers with the Fuel Quality Monitoring System (AKIS) and at fuel oil filling terminals with the Warehouse Fuel Quality Monitoring System (DAKİS).”

LICENSE HOLDERS CAN ADD ADDITIVES

EMRA shared that according to the oil market legislation, distributor license holders can add various additives to improve the properties of fuels, provided that they do not exceed 0.5%. It was noted that there was no change in the obligations of distributor license holders to inform EMRA and obtain the necessary permits regarding the additives to be used for the additive process in question.
