Turkiye: Record export of $1.6 billion in January from ready-made clothing and apparel

The ready-to-wear and apparel industry achieved the highest January exports of all time with $1 billion 634 million of exports in January.

According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), Turkiye’s exports increased by 10.4% in January compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to $19.4 billion.

Thus, the highest January export ever reached, while the annualized export value rose to $256 billion.

The sector, which realized exports of $1 billion 592 million in January 2022, made $1 billion 634 million of exports in January 2023 with an increase of 2.7%. Thus, the sector signed the highest January exports of all time.

A portion of $1.2 billion of the sector’s exports last month was made from Istanbul. Bursa followed Istanbul with $134 million and Izmir with $117 million.

Most export to Germany

In the ready-to-wear and apparel sector, Germany was the country with the highest export sales last month, with $304 million. Germany was followed by Spain with $176 million and the Netherlands with $143 million.

When we look at the country groups to which the most exports were made last month, EU countries ranked first with $1 billion, the Commonwealth of Independent States took the second place with $183 million and other European countries took the third place with $166 billion.

According to TIM data, the sector, which exports to 174 countries and regions in January, received an 8.4% share of the country’s total exports in the same period.
