Turkiye: Rental Houses Turned into Free Ads for Earthquake Victims

After the two earthquakes that shook Turkiye, homeowners removed the term for rent and changed the ads to ‘Free for Earthquake victims’ on the websites where many rental house ads were posted across the country.

Turkiye became one heart for earthquake survivors in 10 provinces where great destruction was experienced by two major earthquakes in Kahramanmaras and hundreds of aftershocks.

In addition to food and supplies aid from all over Turkiye,thousands of volunteers flock to the region to take part in debris rescue efforts from other cities, while many homeowners open the doors of their homes to accommodate earthquake survivors in the region.

FREE FOR EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS

On many websites where rental house ads are posted, homeowners have changed their ‘For Rent’ ads to ‘Free for earthquake victims’. While it was stated in hundreds of advertisements on the websites where the advertisements were published that it was free for earthquake victims, some homeowners started to post advertisements that they could reserve rooms for earthquake victims even for their own houses.

The person who owns a 2+1 house in Antalya’s Kemer district, in his advertisement, said, “My feelings are mixed, it saddens us deeply that we can’t do anything. I don’t want to write big sentences. We have prepared for you. Let our families be children or old, please. We are ready to do our best until they overcome their problems. He states that they have prepared the house as furnished, with words such as “Two families can stay comfortably.”

In the advertisements, there are advertisements for houses, mostly furnished, from many cities such as Kayseri, Yozgat, Bitlis, Samsun, Malatya, Gaziantep, Ankara, Istanbul, Aksaray, Sinop, Zonguldak, Kirsehir, Corum, Izmir, which will be announced free of charge for earthquake victims.

In addition, it is stated in many advertisements that supports such as goods and fuel can be given. Some landlords also state that they have suspended their rental status, which was previously ‘For Rent’, to give free of charge to earthquake victims due to the earthquake.
