Hoynat Island in Perşembe district of Ordu, one of the rare spots where crested cormorants nest in Turkiye, attracts the attention of local and foreign tourists. Tourists observe the island from a distance with binoculars and take photos.
It was determined that 90 pairs of crested cormorants and 250 pairs of silver gulls live on Hoynat Island, located at the junction of the sea and land in Perşembe district of Ordu, which has the title of “calm city”.
The island, which is one of the rare places in Turkiye where crested cormorants nest, has an important potential in terms of bird watching, and a project was prepared by the Metropolitan Municipality to bring it into tourism.
In the works carried out in the region, an observation terrace and wooden steps descending to the beach were built opposite the island. There are also seating groups, railings and observation binoculars.

The island, which is known to have been used by sailors as a warehouse and shelter in history, has been designated as an “Important Bird Area” due to the endangered bird species it hosts.

A citizen named Mehmet Genç, who visited the island, said, “This is a wonder of the world. They were telling us, we didn’t believe it, but it was necessary to see it. It is a natural wonder with its green, blue and sea.” Cenk Bingöl said, “We are coming with my family from Istanbul. They had recommended this place before. They said it was a bird paradise. We came for the first time today.It is a very beautiful place.”
