Turkiye’s automobile and light commercial vehicle market increased by 56.6% in January

Turkiye’s total automobile and light commercial vehicle market increased by 56.6% last month compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 79 thousand 701 units.

According to the data of the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), automobile sales increased by 71.7% in January 2024 compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 64 thousand 41 units, and the light commercial vehicle market increased by 15.1%, reaching 15 thousand 660 units.

According to the 10-year average sales in January, the automobile and light commercial vehicle market grew by 131.2%, the automobile market by 147.1%, and the light commercial vehicle market by 82.9%.

89.6% of the market was made up of vehicles in segments A, B and C, which have low tax rates. C segment cars took a 62.9% share with 40 thousand 279 units, and B segment cars took a 26.3% share with 16 thousand 862 units.

When evaluated according to body types, the most preferred were SUV cars (52.6% share, 33 thousand 705 units). SUV cars were followed by sedans with a 30.3% share and 19 thousand 407 sales, and H/B cars with a 15.3% share and 9 thousand 827 sales.

Gasoline car sales had a 64.4% share with 41 thousand 212 units, and hybrid car sales had a 16% share with 10 thousand 206 units, diesel car sales had a 12.6% share with 8 thousand 55 units, electric car sales had a 6.2% share with 3 thousand 973 units, and autogas car sales had a 0.8% share with 541 units.

ELECTRIC CAR SALES INCREASED

Sales of electric cars below 160 kilowatts increased by 453.1%, reaching an 84.2% share, and sales of electric cars above 160 kilowatts increased by 34.5%, taking a share of 15.8%.

Sales of cars under 1600cc increased by 56.5% to 76.9%, sales of cars in the range of 1600-2000cc increased by 31.5% to 0.7%, and sales of cars above 2000 cc increased by 65.9% to 0.2%.

Cars between 100-120 g/km reached a 32.6% share with 20 thousand 867 units, and cars between 120-140 g/km reached a 23.7% share with 15 thousand 169 units.

Automatic transmission cars had a share of 87.3% with 55 thousand 902 units, while manual transmission cars had a 12.7% share with 8 thousand 139 units.

According to the light commercial vehicle market body type, the van body type was the most preferred body type with a 71.1% share and 11 thousand 136 units, while the pickup truck body type ranked 2nd with a 14.4% share and 2 thousand 249 units.
