Turkiye’s e-commerce volume will reach ₺2.2 trillion by the end of 2024

Turkiye’s e-commerce transaction volume is planned to reach ₺2.2 trillion by the end of this year with the studies to be carried out.

According to the compilation made from the “2024-2028 Strategic Plan” of the Ministry of Commerce, it is important to follow the developments in the sector quickly as e-commerce grows day by day and new business models are included in the system.

The studies to be carried out during the Plan period aim to contribute to sustainable economic growth by supporting green and digital transformation in trade. In this context, it is aimed to develop Turkiye’s e-commerce potential and make it more secure by closely following the developments in the world.

The share of e-commerce in general trade will be increased

The Ministry plans to encourage economic activities for domestic trade, make and implement the necessary regulations, develop cooperatives with tradesmen and craftsmen, and conduct necessary commercial research.

In this context, e-commerce transaction volume is expected to reach ₺2.2 trillion as of this year. This volume is planned to reach ₺3.1 trillion in 2025 and ₺6.3 trillion in 2028.

It is aimed to increase the share of e-commerce in general trade to 21.5% by the end of this year and to 23% in 2025. At the end of the plan period, the share of e-commerce in general trade is aimed to reach 30%.

To achieve these goals, businesses will be encouraged to protect customer data and respect privacy. Worldwide e-commerce trends and best practices will be monitored and this information will be adapted for the local market. Additionally, cooperation between the public, private sector and non-governmental organizations will be encouraged.

Marketplaces will be supported

According to the strategic plan, necessary measures will be taken to structure and strengthen economic activities for foreign trade and an effective foreign trade policy will be developed. In this context, companies, marketplaces and retail e-commerce sites will be supported to increase e-export and the Turkiye e-Export Platform will be established.

According to the plan, the share of e-export in general exports is expected to be increased to 3.3% as of this year. The share in question is targeted to be 5% in 2025 and 10% in 2028.

In order to achieve these goals, new regulations will be made in the relevant legislation. Regulations will be made to address the needs arising from digital transformation, technological developments and the epidemic process in labor legislation.
