Turkiye’s foreign trade indices for October were announced

While the export unit value index increased by 0.1% in October compared to the same month of the previous year, the import unit value index decreased by 12.7%.

Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the foreign trade indices for October.

Accordingly, the export unit value index increased by 0.1% in October compared to the same month of the previous year. Compared to the same month last year, the index decreased by 0.1% in food, beverages and tobacco, by 6.6% in raw materials (excluding fuel) and by 19.9% in fuels. It increased by 1.9% in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages and tobacco).

Import unit value index decreased by 12.7% in October compared to the same month last year. Compared to the same month last year, the index decreased by 4.4% in food, beverages and tobacco, by 35.5% in fuels, by 15.9% in raw materials (excluding fuel), and by 4.1% in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages and tobacco).

Export quantity index increased

Export quantity index increased by 7.2% in October compared to the same month of the previous year. Compared to the same month last year, the index increased by 19% in food, beverages and tobacco, by 46% in fuels, and by 0.6% in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages and tobacco). Raw materials (excluding fuel) fell 3.9%.

Import quantity index increased by 15.3% on an annual basis in October. Compared to the same month last year, the index increased by 11.4% in food, beverages and tobacco, 12% in fuels, and 30.5% in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages and tobacco), while it decreased by 7.1% in raw materials (excluding fuel).

Adjusted data for seasonal and calendar effects

According to the series adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, the export quantity index, which was 159.2 in September, decreased by 4.1% to 152.6 in October. According to the series adjusted for calendar effects, the export quantity index increased by 3% on an annual basis in October, reaching 163.6.

According to the series adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, the import quantity index, while it was 126.6 in September, increased by 6.4% in October and reached 134.7. According to the series adjusted for calendar effects, the import quantity index increased by 11.5% on an annual basis in October, reaching 128.4.

The terms of foreign trade, which is calculated by dividing the export unit value index by the import unit value index and was 75.2 in October 2022, increased by 11 points to 86.2 in October 2023.
