Turkiye’s Western Mediterranean Exports Reach $874.2 Million in 4 Months, with April’s Highest Export to China

Member companies of the Western Mediterranean Exporters’ Association (BAIB) achieved exports of $874 million 167 thousand in the first 4 months of the year. In April, the highest export was to China, with an increase of 89.14% ($30 million 935 thousand).

BAIB Chairman Umit Mirza Cavusoglu stated that the export amount of the union members in April was $220 million 686 thousand.

Cavusoglu stated that the total exports from Antalya, Burdur and Isparta in the first 4 months reached $874 million 167 thousand and that last year’s performance was almost achieved, and said:

“Regional exports, which fell behind last year in the first three months, recovered in April. On an annual basis, the difference with last year’s export performance decreased to 1.2%. The increase rate in April exports, approaching 6%, gave hope for the coming period despite some difficulties.”

Most exports to China

Cavusoglu stated that the sector with the highest exports in April from the Western Mediterranean was the fresh fruit and vegetable sector with $65,875,000, followed by the mining and metals sector with $49,704,000, the wood and forest products sector with $31,510,000, the chemical sector with $20,251,000, and the machinery and components sector with $7,352,000 in exports.

Emphasizing that the highest export in April was made to China with an increase of 89.14% ($30 million 935 thousand), Cavusoglu said:

“Such an increase in exports to China boosted the morale of the region’s exporters. Exports to Russia amounted to $15 million 659 thousand, with a decrease of 19.46%. Exports to Ukraine, where the war continues, increased by 1.09%, reaching $14 million 886 thousand. While our exports to Romania decreased by 8.26% and reached $12 million 479 thousand, our exports to Germany decreased by 8.43% and reached $11 million 384 thousand.”

Cavusoglu stated that in the first four months of the year, the mining sectors, mainly fresh fruits, vegetables and natural stones, realized half of the total exports. He stated that the fresh fruit and vegetable sector exported $301 million 482 thousand with a decrease of 12.29% compared to the same period of the previous year, and the mining sector exported $160 million 301 thousand with an increase of 21.44% in the four-month period.
