Among the companies on the list of Turkiye’s 500 largest industrial enterprises, the food sector leads with 94 units, while the sales of these companies from production exceeded ₺467 billion in 2022.
According to the results of Turkiye’s 500 Largest Industrial Enterprises 2022 Research prepared by the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO), the 500 largest companies were gathered in 24 sectors.
In the said research, the sector with the highest number of companies was food products with 94 companies. The number of companies in the sector in question increased by 1 compared to the previous year. Food was followed by “basic metal industry” with 77 companies, and “motor vehicle, trailer (trailer) and semi-trailer (semi-trailer) manufacturing” with 43 companies.
The list includes 40 companies from the “manufacture of chemicals and chemical products” sector, 33 from electrical equipment, 32 from textiles, 27 from the manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products, and 20 companies each from the “rubber and plastic” and “manufacture of fabricated metal products (except machinery and equipment)” sectors.
It was noteworthy that the number of companies included in the list from the textile sector decreased from 46 to 32, while the number of electrical equipment businesses increased from 29 to 33.
Other sectors and numbers of companies included in the list
Electricity, gas, steam and ventilation system production and distribution found its place on the list with 17 companies, machinery and equipment manufacturing not classified elsewhere with 16 companies, paper and paper products with 15 companies, and clothing with 11 companies. Mining and quarrying were included in the list with 10 companies, manufacturing of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical materials and manufacturing of other transportation vehicles were included in the list with 7 companies each.
6 companies each from the manufacture of wood, wood products and cork products (except furniture), computers, electronic and optical products, 5 from beverages, 4 from furniture, coke and refined petroleum products, and 3 from other manufacturing companies were included in the list. 2 companies from tobacco products and 1 company from printing and reproduction of recorded media entered the list.
The peak in sales from production is the base metal industry
It was stated that the production sales of the companies included in the list in ISO’s Turkiye’s 500 Largest Industrial Enterprises research increased to ₺4.5 trillion in 2022.
When the list was examined, excluding some companies that did not want their names and information to be disclosed, the main metal industry took the lead in sales from production with ₺874 billion.
In second place were enterprises manufacturing coke and refined petroleum products, of which only 4 companies entered the ISO 500 list. Last year, the sales of the four companies in question from production approached ₺647 billion.
The 2022 turnover of companies manufacturing motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers was approximately ₺574 billion.
Turnover exceeding ₺467 billion from food companies
Last year, the total sales from production of 94 companies in the food sector, which were among the most companies in the ISO 500, exceeded ₺467 billion.
It was followed by companies manufacturing electrical equipment with ₺241 billion, and the electricity, gas, steam and ventilation system production and distribution sector with ₺240.5 billion.
