Turkish stocks keep breaking record at close

Turkey’s benchmark stock index rose 0.76% from previous close to hit highest closing level in its history at 123,556.10 points on Tuesday.

Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index started the day at 121,886.80 points. As of the daily close, it advanced 936.33 points from Monday’s close of 122,619.77 points.

During Tuesday’s trading, the index’s hovered between 121,504.06 points and 123,804.00 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 849.2 billion Turkish liras ($144 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 12.6 billion Turkish liras ($2.1 billion).

On the second transaction day of the week, 67 stocks on the index rose, 25 were down, and eight were flat compared to Monday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, leasing company Is Finansal Kiralama and petrochemical company Petkim.

Stocks of real estate investment trust Torunlar Gayrimenkul (TRGYO) were the best performer, up 10.53%, while information technologies company Netas (NETAS) dropped the most, down 1.58%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,555.70 by market close, down from $1,558.90 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $64.81 per barrel as of 6.30 p.m. (1530GMT) on Tuesday.
