Electric car sales increased in the third quarter in Europe

In the European Union, the share of electric cars in the total market reached 11.9% in the third quarter of this year.

The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) has published new automobile sales data by fuel types in the European Union (EU) countries in the 3rd quarter of 2022.

Accordingly, 37.8% of the cars sold in EU countries in the said period were gasoline, 22.6% hybrid, 16.5% diesel, 11.9% all-electric (BEV), 8.5% plug-in hybrid (PHEV), 2.5% other fuels and 0.2% natural gas.

In the third quarter, compared to the same period of the previous year, electric car sales increased by 22% to 259 thousand 449, and hybrid sales increased by 6.9% to 492 thousand 11 units.

Gasoline car sales decreased by 3.3% to 823 thousand 360, diesel sales decreased by 4.7% to 360 thousand 596, plug-in hybrid car sales decreased by 6% to 184 thousand 450. Natural gas automobile sales decreased by 52.4% to 3 thousand 954 and other alternative fuel automobile sales decreased by 9.5% to 55 thousand 418.

Thus, in the said period, the share of electric and various hybrid cars in the total market in EU countries reached 43%.
