Foreign trade of works of art exceeded $117 million in approximately 4 years

Foreign trade volume in the works of art, collectibles and antiques sector in Turkiye was $117.5 million as of September 2020-2023.

Economic activities in this field are constantly increasing at national and international levels, both for commercial purposes and due to interest in works of art, antiques or collections.

In auctions held in many parts of the world, especially in Western European countries, works can find buyers for very serious amounts of money.

Foreign trade figures are on the rise

When the issue is evaluated from the perspective of Turkiye, it is noteworthy that the foreign trade volume in the mentioned area is in a constant increasing trend.

According to TUIK data, while $10 million 941 thousand 338 were exported in 2020, this amount increased to $16 million 666 thousand 27 in 2022. In the 9 months of this year, $9 million 721 thousand 421 of exports were made.

Considering the same period in terms of imports, $7 million 507 thousand 184 of foreign purchases were made in 2020. This amount was $18 million 225 thousand 858 last year. In the January-September period of this year, the highest amount in the said period was reached with $27 million 37 thousand 255.

Thus, in the 2020-2023 September period, against a total of $68 million 337 thousand 393 of imports, $49 million 121 thousand 867 thousand of exports were achieved. The total foreign trade volume was $117 million 459 thousand 260.
