The recent increase in the number of electric cars attracted attention. While the number of electric cars in Turkiye was 14 thousand 552 at the end of last year, it increased 3.5 times to 51 thousand 219 as of the end of September this year.

The arrival of Turkiye’s car, Togg, on the roads and its increasing use, and the increasing prevalence of charging stations in various points, especially in city centers, have increased the demand for electric vehicles.

Exceeded 10 times on an annual basis

Electric vehicles constituted 13.3% of the vehicles registered to traffic in September. While 920 electric vehicles were registered in September last year, the number increased 10 times to 9 thousand 832 in the same month this year.

In the January-September period of last year, 4 thousand 559 electric vehicles were registered. In the same period this year, this figure reached 36 thousand 710. Electric vehicles constituted 5.3% of the registered vehicles.

The number of hybrid cars increased by 46.6%

In addition to electric vehicles, the increase in hybrid fuel cars also attracted attention. While the number of cars in question was 134 thousand 662 at the end of last year, it increased by 46.6% and reached 197 thousand 379 as of the end of September this year.

In the 9-month period, the increase in the number of gasoline, diesel and LPG cars remained limited. “Togg increased electric vehicle awareness and usage”

Aydın Erkoc, Chairman of the Motor Vehicle Dealers Federation (MASFED), made an evaluation about the rapid increase in the number of electric vehicles.

Stating that electric vehicles have started to replace internal combustion engines, Erkoc said, “In developed countries such as Sweden and Norway, electric vehicle usage has reached almost 60-70%. Electric car sales in the Turkish automobile market also increase significantly every year compared to the previous year.”

Pointing out that there are many reasons for the positive change in the number of electric vehicles in recent years, Erkoc said:

“First of all, the fact that our local and national car Togg is 100% electric with its smart technology has increased the awareness and use of electric vehicles. On the other hand, world-famous brands’ announcement that they will end the production of internal combustion engines makes electric vehicles preferred due to their low fuel costs and environmental friendliness. In addition, the advanced technology and driving comfort of electric vehicles also increase the interest in these cars.”

Pointing out that consumers have some concerns such as the time required to charge the vehicle on the road, the infrastructure and availability of charging stations, and range, Erkoc said, “For example, drivers going on long journeys may not prefer electric vehicles due to these question marks. We think that if automobile manufacturers develop projects regarding range and increase vehicle usage time, these vehicles will be more preferred.”
