Trabzon’s 3-month hazelnut export was $186.7 million

Hazelnut exports from Trabzon in the January-March period of the year increased by 11% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached $186 million 688 thousand 790.

Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association (DKIB) Hazelnut and Products Sector Committee Chairman Mehmet Cirav said in a written statement that 29,181 tons of hazelnuts were exported from Trabzon in 3 months.

Stating that $186 million 688 thousand 790 were obtained from the foreign sales in question, Cirav stated that there was a 16% decrease in the amount of hazelnut exports and an 11% increase in foreign exchange inflows in the first three months.

Cirav stated that 71 thousand 476 tons of hazelnuts were exported from Turkiye for $454 million 957 thousand 563 in the January-March period and noted that Trabzon was the leader of hazelnut exports in the 3 months of the year, and that it realized 41% of the total exports alone.

Cirav stated that hazelnuts were exported to 44 countries from Trabzon in a 3-month period, and Italy, Poland and Germany were the most exported countries. “In the 7-month period of the 2022-2023 hazelnut export season, which started on September 1, 2022, 247 thousand 441 tons of hazelnuts were exported from our country and an input of $1 billion 471 million 853 thousand 122 was provided. During this period, 72 thousand 953 tons of hazelnuts were exported from Trabzon for $438 million 918 thousand 863.”

“It is very important to increase the efficiency per unit”

Emphasizing that they hope the next season will be very productive, Cirav stated that in this context, producers should attach importance to efforts to increase the yield and quality of the product.

Pointing out that it is very important to increase the yield per unit in terms of preserving the traditional superiority in hazelnut production and export, Cirav noted that the support policies of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry should be established urgently in this regard, and that sustainability in hazelnut is of great urgency.
