Turkiye: Canakkale Bridge 1915 “Project of the Year”

The Çanakkale Bridge 1915, linking the continents of Asia and Europe over the Dardanelles Strait in Turkiye, won the “Project of the Year” award presented by the “Engineering News Record” magazine based in the United States.

Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Oraloglu said in a statement on Sunday that the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge won the award as a result of the general evaluation carried out by the magazine’s jury this month.

He pointed out that the jury members evaluated according to criteria such as design and construction difficulties, benefits to local communities and industry, quality, innovation, and commitment to safety.

He noted that with this award,Al-Jisr will have won two awards from the prestigious magazine during the current year.

He explained that the bridge, which holds the title of the longest suspension bridge in the world with a length of 2,023 meters, won first prize in the bridges and tunnels category in the magazine’s competition for “the best projects in the world” last October.

The Minister noted that the total number of prestigious local and international awards won by the Çanakkale 1915 Bridge reached 24 awards.

In March 2022, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan opened the “Çanakkale 1915” bridge linking the continents of Asia and Europe over the Dardanelles Strait.

It is noteworthy that “Engineering News Record” is a global institution specialized in evaluating engineering projects around the world.
