Turkiye: January-April record in exports from the agricultural sector

The agricultural sector achieved the highest January-April exports of all time with $11 billion 175 million.

The agricultural sector continues to break records in exports. Demand for Turkiye’s agricultural products continues to increase in an environment where geopolitical risks, concerns about supply dominate, and problems regarding access to food on a global scale continue.

Turkiye’s agricultural sector reached the highest January-April export figure of all time with $11 billion 175 million. Agricultural exports, which increased by 1.6% in the first 4 months of the year compared to the same period of 2022, took a 13,8% share from Turkiye’s total export sales.

3 out of 10 sectors operating in agriculture broke export records in the first 4 months. Cereals, pulses, oilseeds and their products, fresh fruit and vegetables, olives and olive oil sectors had the highest exports of all time.

Cereals, pulses, oil seeds and their products were $3 billion 801 million, fresh fruits and vegetables $1 billion 176 million, olives and olive oil $377 million 17 thousand, the highest January-April exports of all time.

In the first 4 months, exports of cereals, pulses, oil seeds and their products increased by 7.4%, fresh fruits and vegetables by 20.9%, and olive and olive oil by 161%.

Exports of cereals, pulses, oilseeds and their products to Iraq exceeded $600 million.

In terms of countries, in the first 4 months of the year, grains, pulses, oil seeds and products exported to Iraq amounted to $660 million 600 thousand, fresh fruit and vegetable sector to Russia $316 million 534 thousand, olive and olive oil sector to Spain $130 million 700 thousand.

Compared to the same period of 2022 in the first 4 months, while the export of grains, pulses, oilseeds and products sector to Iraq decreased by $42 million 232 thousand, the fresh fruit and vegetable sector recorded an increase of $107 million 751 thousand in exports to Russia, and the olive and olive oil sector recorded an increase of $123 million 699 thousand in exports to Spain.

The increase in olive and olive oil exports to Spain drew attention

Olive and olive oil exports to Spain, which was $7 million in the first 4 months of last year, increased to $130 million in the same period of 2023.

In terms of provinces, in the January-April period, $1 billion 174 million of cereals, pulses, oil seeds and their products were exported from Istanbul, $306 million 138 thousand of fresh fruit and vegetables from Antalya, and $176 million 352 thousand of olives and olive oil from Izmir.
