Turkiye: Automotive sales record in February

The automobile and light commercial vehicle market grew by 63.4% compared to February 2022 and reached 81 thousand 148 units, which was recorded as the highest February of all time.

According to the February data of the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), total sales of automobiles and light commercial vehicles in Turkiye increased by 50.4% in the January-February period of 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 132 thousand 42.

In the January-February period of 2023, automobile sales increased by 44.3% to 96 thousand 195, while light commercial vehicle sales increased by 69.7% to 35 thousand 847.

Best February of all time in sales

Looking at February this year, the automobile and light commercial vehicle market grew by 63.4% compared to February 2022 and reached 81 thousand 148 units. This was recorded as the highest February of all time.

In February, automobile sales increased by 56.5% compared to the same month of the previous year and became 58 thousand 907, while light commercial vehicle sales reached 22 thousand 241 with an increase of 85.2%.

The automobile and light commercial vehicle market grew by 74.3% compared to the 10-year February average sales. While the automobile market expanded by 65.8% compared to the average 10-year February sales, the light commercial vehicle market grew by 101.6% compared to the 10-year February average sales.

Sales by segment types

When the automobile market is evaluated by segments in the January-February 2023 period, vehicles in the A, B and C segments with low tax rates constituted 90.3% of the market. C segment cars had a share of 53.9% with 51 thousand 818 units, and B segment cars 35.8% with 34 thousand 436 units.

Most preferred was SUV

When evaluated according to body types, SUV cars were the most preferred with a share of 48.9%. SUVs were followed by sedans with a share of 28.2% and hatchbacks with a share of 20.7%.

According to the body type in the light commercial vehicle market, the van body type was the most preferred body type with a share of 82.9%. Minibus body type ranked second with a share of 6.5%.

Automatic transmissions took a share of 70.8%

In the said period, automatic transmission cars had a 70.8% share with 68 thousand 104 units, while the share of manual transmission cars was 29.2 with 28 thousand 91 units.
