Turkiye: The amount of cargo and containers handled increased in June

The amount of cargo handled at Turkish ports increased by 0.1% in June compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to 45 million 292 thousand 764 tons. The amount of containers increased by 3.8% to 1 million 102 thousand 433 TEU.

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, General Directorate of Maritime Affairs, announced the container and cargo statistics for June.

In June of this year, the amount of cargo handled at the ports increased by 0.1% compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to 45 million 292 thousand 764 tons. In the January-June period, the amount of cargo handled at the ports decreased by 4.6% compared to the same period of the previous year and became 260 million 917 thousand 928 tons.

In June, foreign trade shipments increased by 2.6% compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 33 million 722 thousand 433 tons.

Transit freight shipments by sea decreased by 26.8% and became 5 million 496 thousand 794 tons. In the same month, the amount of cargo carried in cabotage decreased by 22.2% and amounted to 5 million 170 thousand 709 tons.

The most cargo was handled by Kocaeli Regional Port Authority

In the said month, the highest amount of cargo handling was done by Kocaeli Regional Port Authority with 7 million 147 thousand 411 tons, followed by Aliaga Regional Port Authority with 6 million 894 thousand 430 tons and Iskenderun Regional Port Authority with 5 million 804 thousand 106 tons.

Portland cement was the most exported cargo type by sea. It was stated that the most imported cargo type by sea is crude oil.

In exports by sea, the highest amount of cargo handling was realized in the transportation to America with 1 million 377 thousand 69 tons. The highest amount of cargo handling in imports was in the shipments from Russia with 8 million 323 thousand 362 tons. An 8.4% increase was recorded in the amount of liquid bulk cargo handled at the ports.

The highest container handling is for shipments with Greece.

The amount of containers handled at the ports in June increased by 3.8% compared to the same month of the previous year and became 1 million 102 thousand 433 TEU. The amount of containers handled at the ports in the January-June period decreased by 4.6% compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 6 million 96 thousand 76 TEUs.

The amount of handled containers subject to foreign trade increased by 1.5% compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 841 thousand 420 TEUs.

The amount of containers handled in cabotage increased by 1.5% and was recorded as 75,642 TEU.

The highest amount of container handling was carried out at Ambarli Regional Port Authority with 285,71 TEUs. This port authority was followed by Kocaeli Regional Port Authority with 182 thousand 929 TEU and Mersin Regional Port Authority with 176 thousand 898 TEU.

Greece was recorded as the country with the highest container handling, with 107,174 TEUs in June. Containers destined for Egypt accounted for the highest export volume with 51,426 TEUs. The most unloaded containers for import purposes were the containers from Greece with 57 thousand 145 TEUs.
