Record-Breaking Start for Cruise Tourism in Turkiye: 23 Ships Visit in January and February

Four cruise ships came to Istanbul and Samsun, three each to Trabzon and Amasra, six to Kusadasi, and one each to Izmir, Marmaris and Canakkale.

There was an increase in the number of cruise passengers coming to Turkiye compared to January and February of last year.

Last year, in January and February, 10 thousand 480 passengers came to the Turkish coast with 14 cruise ships. In 2024, the number of ships increased by 64% in January and February compared to the same period last year. The increase rate in the number of passengers was 120%.

The first two months of this year were recorded as January-February, when the highest cruise tourism data were recorded after 2015, in terms of the number of ships arriving.

FIGURES LEAVED 2011 BEHIND

Although the first two months of the year were more than 2011, 2013 and 2015 in terms of the number of ships, it fell behind in the number of passengers. In the 13-year period, January and February were the years when the highest number of ships and passengers arrived. In 2011, 15 ships with 28 thousand 923 passengers, in 2013, 12 ships with 29 thousand 474 passengers, and in 2015, 22 ships with 22 thousand 484 passengers visited Turkiye.

HOW MANY SHIPS CAME IN WHICH YEAR?

According to the data of the Maritime Trade Development Department of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, General Directorate of Maritime Affairs, the number of cruise ships and passengers arriving in Turkiye between January and February, from 2011 to 2024, is as follows:

“15 ships with 28 thousand 923 passengers in 2011, 3 ships with 6 thousand 617 passengers in 2012, 12 ships with 29 thousand 474 passengers in 2013, 11 ships with 18 thousand 6 passengers in 2014, 22 ships with 22 thousand 484 passengers in 2015, 4 ships with 564 passengers in 2019, 1 ship with 823 passengers in 2020, 5 ships with 1727 passengers in 2022, 14 ships with 10 thousand 480 passengers in 2023, 23 ships with 23 thousand 47 passengers in 2024.”
