The assets of the Turkish banking sector reached ₺16.8 trillion in May

According to the data of the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA), the total asset size of the Turkish banking sector increased by 17.4% as of May compared to the end of 2022 and reached ₺16 trillion 846.4 billion.

The “Unconsolidated Main Indicators of the Turkish Banking Sector” report for the period of May 2023 was published by the BRSA.

According to the report, the asset size of the banking sector in May amounted to ₺16 trillion 846 billion 448 million. While the total assets of the sector increased by ₺2 trillion 499 billion 58 million compared to the end of 2022, the proportional equivalent of this was 17.4%.

Compared to the end of 2022 in May, loans, the largest asset item of the sector, increased by 21.9% to ₺9 trillion 237 billion 332 million, and the total securities increased by 20.4% to ₺2 trillion 854 billion 936 million. In this period, the NPL ratio of loans stood at 1.75%.

Deposits, which are the biggest source of funds among banks’ resources, increased by 16.9% in May compared to the end of 2022 and rose to ₺10 trillion 355 billion 711 million.

In the same period, the total equity reached ₺1 trillion 606 billion 765 million with an increase of 14.3%. As of the end of May, the sector’s net profit for the period was ₺190 billion 344 million, and the capital adequacy standard ratio was 17.08%.
