Netflix Turkiye employed more than 13,000 creative industry workers

Pelin Mavili, the Director of Public Relations for the Middle East and North Africa at Netflix Turkey, reported that they have collaborated with over 80 production and distribution companies in Turkey, providing employment to more than 13,000 sector workers.

According to a statement from the company, the leading entertainment platform Netflix Turkey participated in today’s program of the two-day Creative Economy Summit organized by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) Creative Industries Council.

The summit, held in Ankara and hosting representatives from the public and private sectors, academics, and prominent figures in the creative industries, was attended by Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology Zekeriya Coştu, Deputy Minister of Trade Özgür Volkan Ağar, TOBB President Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, as well as Ata Kavame, the President of TOBB Turkey Creative Industries Council, Berat Kuzu, the Vice President of TOBB Turkey Creative Industries Council, and İbrahim Burkay, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Pelin Mavili, Director of Public Relations for the Middle East and North Africa at Netflix Turkey, stated in her speech that the production in the film and television sector has increased in recent years, saying, “Our goal at Netflix is to connect our members with the best productions in various genres and formats. In line with this, we have created a rich content library by collaborating with more than 80 production and distribution companies in Turkey. This process has created employment for more than 13,000 sector workers. This is a significant achievement, but we are determined to do more.”

“The coverage of domestic productions has expanded,” Mavili said, noting that thanks to Turkey’s strong creative sector, content has been exported to many countries for many years. She pointed out that with Netflix, this access has expanded even further, saying, “According to a survey we conducted worldwide, Netflix members watch Turkish productions 50% more than non-members. In the United States, this figure approaches 100%. In other words, we are now reaching audiences who were not interested in Turkish productions in the past.”

Mavili emphasized that this broad access contributes to Turkey culturally and economically, noting that members who watch Turkish productions on Netflix in the countries they reside in have shown a 2.6-fold increase in their desire to visit Turkey and a 4.6-fold increase in their desire to learn Turkish.

Highlighting the importance of investments in the future of the sector, Mavili said in the panel, “At Netflix, we organize free training programs in various fields in Turkey, from screenwriting to creative production. Most recently, we launched a course in visual effects in collaboration with Ankara Science University to cultivate new talents. We believe that our industry will move forward into the future with much stronger steps.”
