Card payments exceeded ₺807 billion in September in Turkiye

The total amount of payments made with credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards in September increased by 122% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached ₺807.7 billion.

Interbank Card Center (BKM) announced its data for September.

Accordingly, as of September, the number of credit cards in Turkiye was 112.7 million, the number of debit cards was 184.4 million and the number of prepaid cards was 84.5 million. Compared to September last year, the number of credit cards increased by 18%, the number of debit cards increased by 12%, and the number of prepaid cards increased by 28%. The total number of cards reached 381.6 million, increasing by 17% compared to the same period last year.

The total amount of payments made with credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards in September increased by 122% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached ₺807.7 billion. While ₺657.8 billion of card payments were made with credit cards, ₺135.8 billion were made with debit cards and ₺14.1 billion were made with prepaid cards.

3 out of every 4 card payments made in-store were made contactless

The growth rate in payments made by credit card compared to the same period of the previous year was 128%, in payments made by debit card it was 97%, and in payments made by prepaid cards, this rate was 120%.

The total number of payments made with credit cards, debit cards and prepaid cards in September increased by 27% compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 1.4 billion. While 789 million of card payments were made with credit cards, 529 million were made with debit cards and 86.6 million were prepaid cards.

The growth rate in the number of payments made with credit cards was 29% compared to the same period last year, and 25% in the number of payments made with debit cards, while this rate was 28% in the number of payments made with prepaid cards.

Online card payment reached ₺227 billion. 3 out of every 4 card payments made in-store were made contactless.
