Turkiye Leads Global Wheat Flour Exports for a Decade

According to the latest data of the World Bank, Turkiye has been at the top in wheat flour exports for 10 years as of 2022.

While world wheat production was calculated as 773 million tons with an increase of 1.4% in the 2020/21 season, this increase was largely due to the production increases in Russia, Kazakhstan, Australia and Canada. In contrast, production in the European Union (EU), the United Kingdom and Argentina fell.

Next season wheat production; It increased to 781 million tons due to the increase in production in China, the EU, Australia, India and Ukraine.

Turkiye is among the countries in the world that can meet its own consumption in wheat production. While wheat production in the country was 22 million tons last year, Turkiye ranked first in the world by exporting approximately 3.7 million tons of flour in this period.

On the other hand, according to the latest data of the World Bank, Turkiye consistently ranked first in wheat flour exports in the 2013-2022 period.

Exports were recorded as 3.1 million tons in 2022

While Turkiye exported 2.1 million tons of wheat flour in 2013, exports in this field increased continuously until 2016 and reached 3.5 million tons. Although there was a decrease in exports in the 2017-2021 period, this did not affect Turkiye’s leading position in global exports. Exports were recorded as 3.1 million tons in 2022.
