Turkiye’s February Foreign Trade Indices: Export and Import Unit Values Decline

Export unit value index decreased by 4.3% and import unit value index decreased by 5.9% in February compared to the same month last year.

Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the foreign trade indices for February.

Accordingly, the export unit value index decreased by 4.3% in February compared to the same month of the previous year.

Compared to February 2023, the index decreased by 0.2% in food, beverages and tobacco, by 8.4% in raw materials (excluding fuel), by 6.9% in fuels, and by 4.3% in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages and tobacco).

Import unit value index decreased by 5.9% on an annual basis in February.

Compared to the same month last year, the index decreased by 3.1% in food, beverages and tobacco, by 17% in fuels, by 4.1% in raw materials (excluding fuel) and by 3.8% in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages and tobacco).

Export quantity index

Export quantity index increased by 18.6% in February compared to the same month last year. In the same period, the index showed an increase of 32.2% in food, beverages and tobacco, 22.2% in raw materials (excluding fuel), 60% in fuels and 14.7% in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages and tobacco).

The import quantity index decreased by 3.5% on an annual basis in February. While the index decreased by 6.4% in food, beverages and tobacco compared to the same month last year, it increased by 19% in raw materials (excluding fuel), 2.8% in fuels, and 9.7% in the manufacturing industry (excluding food, beverages and tobacco).

Data adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects

According to the series adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, the export quantity index, which was 152.8 in January, increased by 1.7% and was calculated as 155.5 in February. According to the series adjusted for calendar effects, the export quantity index, which was 125.3 in February last year, increased by 13.9% and reached 148.2.

According to the series adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, the import quantity index, which was 116.1 in January, increased by 6.3% and reached 123.3 in February. According to the series adjusted for calendar effects, the index, which was 125 in February last year, decreased by 6.7% and was recorded as 116.6 in the same month this year.

The terms of foreign trade, which is calculated by dividing the export unit value index by the import unit value index and was 85.2 in February last year, was recorded as 86.7 in the same month this year, with an increase of 1.5 points.
