Turkiye’s Gold Reserves: A Safe Haven Amid Economic Uncertainties

In Turkiye, gold is seen as a safe haven by citizens. Not only people who want to protect their money, but also countries insure themselves against economic crises by increasing their gold reserves. According to data, Turkiye is among the 11 countries with the most gold reserves in the world.

Recently, gold has stood out both as a means of protection against economic crises and as an important component of central bank reserves.

According to the data of the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the World Gold Council, and the Federal Reserve Bank of St Louis, Turkiye became the 11th country with the most gold reserves as of 2023.

  • Germany: 3 thousand 353 tons
  • Italy: 2 thousand 452 tons
  • France: 2 thousand 437 tons
  • Russia: 2 thousand 333 tons
  • China: 2 thousand 192 tons
  • Switzerland: 1,040 tons
  • Japan: 847 tons
  • India: 801 tons
  • Netherlands: 612 tons
  • Turkiye: 479 tons
