In the Grain Corridor, the most freight moved to China, Spain and Turkiye

More than 32 million tons of grain were shipped with 987 ships in 11 months through the “Grain Corridor” opened with the assurance provided by Turkiye. The countries with the highest freight were China, Spain, Turkiye and Italy.

In his written statement, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu evaluated the “Grain Corridor”, which was created to eliminate the risk of “food crisis” due to the Russia-Ukraine War.

Emphasizing that Turkiye is the third country where the most grain is transported, Uraloglu said, “In the list of 44 countries, 290 of the 987 ships are Turkish flagged and 224 ships arrived at different ports of our country. In total, there are 13 grains and varieties of grain products, barley, wheat, maize, soy, wheat bran, processed mixed food, soybeans, sunflower seeds, sunflower meal, sunflower oil and peas.”

“The amount arriving at Turkish ports is 3 million 659 thousand tons”

Uraloglu stated that the total amount of grain transported between August 1, 2022 and June 20, 2023 was 32 million tons and said, “The amount arriving at Turkish ports is 3 million 659 thousand tons. The highest cargo went to China with 7 million 662 thousand 808 tons. The countries with the highest freight were China, Spain, Turkiye and Italy.”

The amount of grain going to African countries has doubled

Uraloglu drew attention to the fact that 3 million 978 thousand 853 tons of grain was transported to the African continent with the Grain Corridor, which was established and continued with the contributions of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and said:

“The Grain Corridor, which was opened with the assurance provided by Turkiye, has benefited many countries. The share of African countries is currently around 12%. In the last 6 months, this figure was 6%. Thus, the amount of grain sent to African countries doubled.”
