Pomega Energy Storage Inc. predicts high exports in lithium-iron-phosphate battery cell

Kontrolmatik Technology Chairman of the Board Sami Aslanhan stated that they will produce 2 million battery cells per year, “We estimate that there will be demand in the domestic market up to 25%, but we will export 75% of the products.”

Kontrolmatik Technology Chairman of the Board Sami Aslanhan stated that they will produce 2 million battery cells per year in the prismatic single type lithium-iron-phosphate battery cell giga factory, “We estimate that there will be demand in the domestic market up to 25%, but we will export 75% of the products.”

The opening of the giga factory of Pomega Energy Storage Technologies Inc, within the body of Kontrolmatik Technology, will be held tomorrow.

Speaking to AA correspondent before the opening, Aslanhan noted that they anticipate investing a total of $272 million until 2025 in the factory, which they started to construct in Polatlı in 2021.

Stating that the battery cell to be produced in the factory will be 100 amperes in the first place, Aslanhan stated that they will then start producing 150 and 300 amperes cells.

Aslanhan said that the battery cell to be produced will be used in the storage of wind and solar energy, in hospitals, shopping centers, data centers, electric vehicles and homes.

Noting that the said factory investment is very important for Turkiye, Aslanhan said:

“At the moment, there is no other factory in our field from Europe to China. There is no study about the products we produce, it will be the first factory to come into operation. We will both prevent imports and exports. I can say that our export markets are Europe, the Middle East and Sub-Saharan. These are our target export markets. Of course, it will also be a remedy for Turkiye’s needs, and it will prevent imports. Pomega will mark the Turkish Century both in reducing the current account deficit and increasing exports. We estimate that there will be demand in the domestic market up to about 25%, but that we will export 75% of the products.”

Factory in the US to be completed next year

Stating that they will also invest in the processing of raw materials used in battery production in Turkiye, Aslanhan said, “We buy raw materials from abroad. We will start an investment to prepare battery chemicals and we will complete it within two years. After this is over, we will be producing our own battery chemicals with raw materials in Turkiye without being dependent on foreign sources. In the next step, we will set up a recycling facility and the cycle will be complete. We will have established an ecosystem that extends from mining to cell production and finished product.”

Sharing the knowledge that they have also invested in the USA in this field, Aslanhan stated that they held a groundbreaking ceremony in February and that the factory with a capacity of 3 gigawatt-hours will be completed next year.
