Electric Vehicle Sales Skyrocket Over 8-Fold in Turkiye During 2023

Total electric vehicle sales in Turkiye increased more than 8 times compared to the previous year, reaching 68 thousand 700 in 2023.

According to information compiled from the International Energy Agency (IEA) Global Electric Vehicle Data Tracker, total electric vehicle sales in Turkiye reached 7 thousand 540 in 2022.

7 thousand of these were battery electric vehicles (BEV) and 540 were plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV).

Total electric vehicle sales in Turkiye increased more than 8 times compared to the previous year, reaching 68 thousand 700 in 2023. Last year’s electric vehicle sales consisted of 66 thousand BEVs and 2 thousand 700 PHEVs.

The share of electric vehicles in total vehicle sales reached 10 percent last year. This rate was 1.1 percent in 2022.

Electric vehicle stock reached 82 thousand in 9 years

According to IEA data, while there were no electric vehicle sales in Turkiye in 2014, 110 PHEVs were sold in 2015. This was followed by 44 BEV sales in 2016, 77 in 2017, 190 in 2018, and 230 in 2019.

400 PHEVs and 890 BEVs were sold in Turkiye in 2020. BEV sales increased to 3 thousand and PHEV sales to 920 in 2021.

Thus, with sales in 2022 and 2023, the total electric vehicle stock in Turkiye reached 82 thousand by the end of 2023.

In the Global Electric Vehicle Outlook report published annually by IEA, it was stated that last year’s sales of Togg T10X, the fourth best-selling electric vehicle model in November 2023, reached 20 thousand.
