According to Deloitte’s ‘Turkish Food Service Market’ report, the catering services market in Turkiye, which has a size of ₺415 billion, is expected to grow by 86% in the next 3 years and exceed ₺770 billion.

According to the Deloitte statement, the company has released its ‘Turkiye Food Service Market’ report, in which it examines the full-service casual chain restaurants that constitute the largest part of catering services in Turkiye.

Accordingly, the epidemic transformed the food industry, like all industries in the world. In the report, full service casual chain restaurants, which constitute the largest part of the Turkish food service market and where the focus is on sitting down, were evaluated.

According to the report, the size of the Turkish food service market is estimated to be ₺144 billion in 2021. The largest segment in the market is full service restaurants with a share of approximately 40%.

Although the epidemic caused many branches to close and sales to fall in 2020, the market grew by 16.3% in the 2016-2021 period. Looking at the report, 2021 is considered to be a partial recovery year, with transactions per branch higher than in 2020.

Among the countries referenced in the report, Ireland is expected to be the fastest growing country between 2022 and 2026. The country with the slowest growth is expected to be Greece, whose food service market is expected to shrink in 2023.

According to the report prepared by Deloitte, the catering services market in Turkiye, which is estimated to reach a size of ₺415 billion in 2023, will grow by 86% in 2026 and exceed ₺770 billion.

Although the growth expectation of full service restaurants (FSR) is lower compared to other sub-segments, it is estimated that the FSR segment will maintain its leadership in the market until 2026.

Deloitte Turkiye Consulting Services Leader Hakan Gol, whose views are included in the statement, stated that especially fast food-take-out restaurants received a share from FSR in 2020, ‘Fast food-take-out restaurants had a great advantage in the market with their home delivery systems during the epidemic period when branches were only allowed to offer home delivery services.’

Gol said, “Although full service restaurants consider their biggest competitors as fast food and take-out, their leadership in the market will continue. The continued expansion of fast food restaurants, increasing consumer demand for inexpensive meal alternatives and a young population are positively affecting the performance of fast food-take-out restaurants.”

Stating that the increase in population and increase in income has grown the FSR market, customers with higher income levels spend more money on FSR, said, “The FSR market has decreased in 2020 due to Covid-19 restrictions. By 2021, it has returned to pre-pandemic levels. The desire to socialize after the epidemic is expected to have a positive effect on market growth in the coming years.’

Stating that they expect the market to grow by approximately 100 percent between 2023 and 2026 and reach ₺312 billion, Gol said that while preparing the Turkish Food Service Market report, the long-term effects of the 5 global trends affecting the market on the sector were discussed.
