Turkcell Q1 revenues up 7.7% on previous quarter, 61.5% year-on-year

Turkish telecoms group Turkcell has reported its consolidated group revenues jumped by 61.5% year-on-year and 7.7% quarter-on-quarter to TRY17.276 billion (USD885 million) in Q1 2023, driven mainly by ‘increased ARPU growth, expanded post-paid subscriber base, the contribution of international operations, techfin business and digital business services.’ Excluding the impact of devastating earthquakes in Turkey in February 2023, y-o-y revenue growth would have reached about 65%, the group added.

EBITDA rose 57.1% y-o-y to TRY6.759 billion in the three months ended 31 March 2023, although EBITDA margin was reduced 1.1 percentage points y-o-y to 39.1%. Q1 operating profit (EBIT) climbed 83.7% y-o-y to TRY4.073 billion, and net income improved 250.8% to TRY2.817 billion. Turkcell’s Turkish mobile post-paid subscription base (minus M2M connections) increased to 21.8 million at end-1Q23,up from 21.6 million three months previously and 20.6 million twelve months earlier. It also reported 38,000 net quarterly fiber broadband subscription additions and 160,000 additional fibre network homes passed in the quarter. Mobile ARPU exceeded the average inflation rate and rose by 67.9% y-o-y in 1Q23 ‘mainly on the back of gradual price adjustments over the last year, upsell to higher tariffs and larger post-paid subscriber base.’
