Turkiye: Record exports from 5 sectors within the industry

5 sectors within the industry realized the highest January-February exports of all time.

According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), Turkiye’s exports increased by 1.5% in the first 2 months of the year compared to the same period of 2022 and reached $38 billion 7 million 600 thousand.

In this period, Turkiye’s industrial exports decreased by 3% to $27 billion 184 million 46 thousand. The share of the industrial sector in Turkiye’s total exports was 81.2%.

Despite the disruptions in production and economic activities in the provinces affected by the Kahramanmaras-centered earthquakes last month, 5 sectors within the industry realized the highest January-February exports of all time.

Automotive industry exports exceeded $5 billion

Leather and leather products, automotive industry, electricity and electronics, jewelry, air-conditioning industry became the sectors with the highest January-February exports of all time.

The leather and leather products sector realized the highest 2-month exports of all time with $350 million 762 thousand, the automotive industry with $5 billion 347 million, the electrical and electronics sector with $2 billion 486 million, the jewelry sector $940 million 248 thousand, and the air conditioning industry $1 billion 87 million.

In the 2 months of this year, exports increased by 13.1% in leather products, 12.2% in the automotive industry, 15.5% in the electrical and electronics industry, 10.7% in the jewelry industry and 9.4% in the air conditioning industry compared to the same period of 2022.

Germany came to the fore

Germany came to the fore in record-breaking sectors. The automotive industry exported $798 million 692 thousand and the air conditioning industry $121 million 60 thousand to Germany.

Leather and leather products to the Russian Federation amounted to $48 million 667 thousand, to the United Kingdom $238 million 232 thousand to the electrical and electronics sector, to the United Arab Emirates $155 million 716 thousand to the jewelry industry.

The industrial exports of Adiyaman, Malatya, Diyarbakir and Sanliurfa, which were affected by the earthquake, increased in January-February 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year.

Adıyaman’s industrial export reached $15 million 856 thousand with an increase of 72%, and Malatya’s industrial exports reached $16 million 800 thousand with an increase of 13.9%. Diyarbakir’s industrial exports increased by 42.3% to $36 million 478 thousand, while Sanliurfa’s industrial exports increased by 5.8% to $26 million 99 thousand.
