Natural gas imports decreased by 3.2% in September, stock amount increased

Turkiye’s natural gas imports decreased by 3.2% in September compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching approximately 3 billion 291 million 830 thousand cubic meters.

According to the “Natural Gas Market Sector Report” of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority for September, approximately 2 billion 790 million 690 thousand cubic meters of imports were made through pipelines and 501 million 140 thousand cubic meters were made through liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities.

While natural gas imports via pipelines decreased by 10.1% in September compared to the same month last year, LNG imports increased by 69%. Total natural gas imports decreased by 3.2% in this period, reaching approximately 3 billion 291 million 830 thousand cubic meters.

While the highest natural gas import was from Russia with 1 billion 902 million 170 thousand cubic meters in September, this country was followed by Azerbaijan with 888 million 520 thousand cubic meters and Algeria with 399 million 57 thousand cubic meters.

During this period, natural gas was not imported from Iran. While natural gas imports from Algeria increased by 35%, natural gas imports from Azerbaijan increased by 25% and natural gas imports from Russia increased by 23.5%, the amount of LNG from the USA increased by 100%, reaching 101 million 570 thousand.

Gas consumption of residences decreased by 1.8%

During the said period, natural gas consumption in the country decreased by 2.7% and reached approximately 3 billion 43 million 500 thousand cubic meters.

Natural gas consumption of the industrial sector was recorded as approximately 1 billion 43 million 930 thousand cubic meters, with an increase of 1.3%. Natural gas consumption in power plants decreased by 13.3% to 1 billion 153 million 650 thousand cubic meters.

Natural gas consumption in residences decreased by 1.8% in this period, reaching 285 million 820 thousand cubic meters.

Natural gas stock amount increased

The amount of natural gas stock in Turkiye increased by 39.9% in September compared to the same month last year, reaching approximately 5 billion 453 million cubic meters.

5 billion 151 million 630 thousand cubic meters (94.5%) of the natural gas stock is in underground storage facilities, and 301 million 370 thousand cubic meters (5.5%) is in LNG terminals.
