Tourism revenue increased by 13.1% in the third quarter of the year

Turkiye’s tourism revenue increased by 13.1% in the third quarter of the year compared to the same period last year, reaching $20 billion 225 million 317 thousand. Most visits were made for sightseeing, entertainment, sports and cultural purposes.

Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced tourism statistics for the July-September period of this year.

Accordingly, tourism revenue increased by 13.1% in the third quarter compared to the same quarter of the previous year. In the said period, tourism income was $20 billion 225 million 317 thousand.

16.5% of tourism income was obtained from citizens residing abroad who visited Turkiye.

Visitors organized their travels with a personal or package tour. Of the expenditures made in the said period, $14 billion 644 million 632 thousand were personal expenses, and $5 billion 580 million 686 thousand were package tour expenses.

During this period, the average nightly expenditure of visitors departing from Turkiye was calculated as $103, and the average nightly expenditure of citizens residing abroad was calculated as $74.

Most visits were made for sightseeing, entertainment, sports and culture purposes

The number of visitors departing from Turkiye increased by 6.8% in this period, reaching 22 million 428 thousand 234. 12% of these, 2 million 687 thousand 458 people, were citizens residing abroad.

During the said period, sports, education and culture expenditures increased by 33.3%, accommodation expenditures by 26.1%, food and beverage expenditures by 24.6%, while tour services expenditures decreased by 1.6%.

During this period, foreign visitors visited Turkiye mostly for “travel, entertainment, sports and cultural activities” with 76.2%. In second place was “visiting relatives and friends” with 16.6%, and in third place was “shopping” with 3%.

Citizens residing abroad came to Turkiye mostly for “visiting relatives and friends” with 61.2%.

Tourism expenses, which consist of the expenditures of citizens residing in the country and visiting other countries, increased by 74.8% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and reached $1 billion 933 million 781 thousand. Of this, $1 billion 491 million 933 thousand were personal and $441 million 848 thousand were package tour expenses.

The number of citizens visiting abroad in this quarter increased by 43.7% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and reached 2 million 978 thousand 418 people. Their average expenditure per person was $649.
