Turkish Banking Sector Deposits Rise to ₺17 Trillion Latest Week

Total deposits in Turkish banks rose by ₺57.4 billion in the week ending June 28, reaching a new high of ₺17 trillion. The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkiye (CBRT) released its latest weekly statistics on monetary and banking activities.

In the week ending June 28, the total deposits in the banking sector, including interbank deposits, rose by ₺57,435,735,000 to reach ₺17,508,006,000,000. During the same period, Turkish lira-denominated deposits in banks saw a 0.38% increase to ₺10,190,882,765,000, while foreign currency (FC) deposits decreased by 0.32% to ₺6,035,255,233,000.

Total FC deposits in banks amounted to $193,825,000,000 last week, with $163,091,000,000 held in accounts of domestic residents.

Domestic residents’ total FC deposits showed a decrease of $1,636,000,000 as of June 28, considering data adjusted for exchange rate effects.

Installment commercial loans increased

Consumer loans in deposit banks rose by 1.42% last week, reaching ₺1,637,779,573,000.

During the same period, installment commercial loans saw a 1.44% increase to ₺1,564,019,254,000, while credit card balances rose by 2.25% to ₺1,925,464,180,000.

Consumer loans in deposit banks consisted of ₺403,535,252,000 for housing, ₺70,122,462,000 for vehicles, and ₺1,164,121,859,000 for other loans.

The total credit volume of the banking sector, including CBRT, rose by ₺177,368,460,000 to ₺13,338,788,116,000 in the week ending June 28.

Total credit volume recorded a 39.46% increase compared to the same period last year.
