Turkiye: New regulation for wind power plants

The power limitation has been removed in power plants whose main source is wind energy and in units based on auxiliary sources.

The Board decision of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority on “Changes in the Procedures and Principles Regarding the Determination of the Power Plant Sites of the Generation Facilities subject to Pre-license or Licenses in the Electricity Market” was published in the Official Gazette.

Accordingly, generation facilities based on wind energy as the main source will be exempted from the upper limit determined for the mechanical installed capacity of the auxiliary source-based units that can be installed in multi-source electricity generation facilities.

The total mechanical power of the auxiliary source-based units that can be installed in multi-source electricity production facilities cannot exceed the main source installed capacity in production facilities with a total electrical installed power of 50 megawatts and below of the units based on the main source.

In electricity generation facilities with a total electrical installed power of more than 50 megawatts based on the main source, 50 megawatts cannot exceed the total power to be found by adding the half of the electrical installed power of the main source exceeding 50 megawatts.

In this context, the mechanical installed power of the auxiliary source-based units to be installed cannot exceed 100 megawatts in total.

With the new regulation, generation facilities based on wind energy, the main source of which, were excluded from the scope of the aforementioned provision.
