The automotive industry made the most exports in 2020

In 2020, the automotive industry was the sector with the highest exports with $25 billion 548 million 566 thousand, despite a 16.5% decrease in exports compared to 2019.

According to Turkey Exporters’ Assembly (TIM) data, the automotive industry signed exports of $2 billion 799 million 28 thousand in December. Thus, the total export of the sector in 2020 reached $25 billion 548 million 566 thousand.

Last year, in terms of total export volume, the automotive industry was followed by chemicals and chemical products with $18 billion 263 million 488 thousand, and ready-made clothing and apparel with $17 billion 143 million 441 thousand.

In terms of export increase, the ship and yacht sector ranked first with 31.9% compared to 2019. This sector was followed by fresh fruits and vegetables with 20.8%, and fruit and vegetable products with 8.8%.

The exports of the industrial group, where 75.3% of Turkey’s total exports were realized, decreased by 7.6% in 2020 compared to 2019, and reached $127 billion 645 million 230 thousand.

In the same period, exports of the agricultural group, which accounted for 14.4% of total exports, increased by 4.3% to $24 billion 369 million 143 thousand, and in the mining group, where 2.5% of total exports were carried out, $4 billion 272 million 391 thousand were exported with a 0.9% decrease.

Most exports were made to Germany

Last year, the top 3 countries where exporters made the most exports were Germany with $14 billion 422.9 million, the United Kingdom with $10 billion 496.6 million, and the USA with $8 billion 859.3 million.

The share of the top 20 countries in exports reached 65.43% last year. The amount of exports to these countries was $102 billion 257 million 867 thousand.
